The Brazilian Football League
The Brazilian football league, also known as Campeonato Brasiliense consists of two professional leagues. The serie A and B, each consisting of 20 professional clubs. There are several other Amateur leagues as well. The Brazilian league has a huge number of clubs because of the country’s preference for football more than any other country in the world, more than 450 clubs are currently registered by the Brazilian Football Confederation. Some of the most successful old clubs in Brazil include Sao Paulo FC, Club Independente, Club America, Club Santa Cruz and Vasco da Gama. Many of these clubs are no longer functioning optimally while new ones such as Ituano, Juventude, Atletico Paranaense, Nautico and several others have taken over the league.
Vasco da Gama is one of the most successful and most popular football club in Brazil. It was founded in 1898, and it is located in Rio de Janeiro. It has won the Rio de Janeiro state league for a record 22 times and as won the Brazilian national league 4 times. It also parades some of the best Brazilian talents you can find anywhere.
One other successful club in the Brazilian league is Atletico Paranaense Football club, which is located in the city of Curitiba, Parana state of Brazil. It has won the state league 20 times. It was founded in 1924.
Club Nautico is also one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in Brazil. It was founded in 1901 and its located in the city of Recife, in Panambuco state. It has won the state league 21 times, and the Brazilian North titles 3 times.
The Cruzeiro football club is another successful club in Brazil that has won the Mina Geiras state league a record 34 times- the highest in the Brazilian state league history. It has also won the Brazilian league club 5 times, and it won the Brazilian league just once in 2003. It was founded in 1923 but has made more successes that clubs like Vasco da Gama and Atletico Paranaense.
Brazilian football league is not as buoyant as other Leagues in Europe. Salaries and wages paid to players are relatively small compared to what players in European leagues earn. Revenue earnings here is moderately good but still cannot be compared to other professional leagues in Europe. One thing that gives the Brazilian league an edge is the fact clubs have natural talented players who are being sold to major European league.
